[1st Anniversary of Release] The extremely spicy cold noodles “Shinigami Reimen” now have 5 levels of spiciness. The highest level is named “The Night of the Last Day of the Long Weekend” (Akihabara, Tokyo Reimen)
Tokyo Reimen, a cold noodle specialty restaurant in Akihabara, has expanded the spiciness level of its extremely spicy “Shinigami Reimen” (Death God Cold Noodles), which uses Carolina Reaper peppers, from three levels to five. Those who can finish the level 5 spicy dish will receive a “Certificate of Survival from the Underworld.”
Tokyo Reimen, a cold noodle specialty restaurant in Akihabara, has expanded the spiciness options for its extremely spicy “Shinigami Reimen” (Death God Cold Noodles) (1,200 yen/tax included), which was launched on August 18, 2025, from the original three levels to five, and began offering it from August 7, 2026. Almost a year after its launch, the signature extremely spicy dish is venturing into even deeper territory.

Beyond the Underworld
Up until now, the Grim Reaper Cold Noodles have come in three levels of spiciness: Hell’s Gate (1 spiciness), Hell (2 spiciness), and the Underworld (3 spiciness). The highest level, “The Underworld,” as the name suggests, was set to be the ultimate level of spiciness.
This time, we’ve prepared two more options: Yomigaeri (level 4 spiciness) and the night of the last day of the long weekend (level 5 spiciness) . Two more stages beyond the endpoint you thought you had reached.
It not only adds spiciness, but also enhances the umami flavor.
The two newly established top levels now include Bhut Jolokia in addition to the traditional Carolina Reaper . Rather than simply increasing the spiciness, various spices have been added to ensure that the flavor is not lost even amidst the intense heat.
Cold noodles are traditionally a dish to be enjoyed for their refreshing acidity and rich broth. Our top priority in designing this dish was to ensure that these characteristics remain intact even as the spiciness level increases.
Five levels of spiciness to choose from.
In front of the Gate of Hell (1 spice level)
Hell (2 spiciness level)
The Underworld (3 spiciness level)
Yomigaeri (Spicy level 4)
Last night of the long weekend (5 spice level)
The final destination is named “The Night of the Last Day of the Long Weekend.”
The combination of two of the world’s hottest chili peppers results in that level of spiciness that many people experience multiple times every year.
A “Certificate of Survival from the Underworld” is awarded to those who finish the meal.
Those who manage to finish the 5-spice level “Last Night of the Long Weekend” will receive a certificate of achievement, the “Certificate of Survival from the Underworld.”

Certificate of Survival from the Underworld
By presenting this certificate, you will be exempt from the additional charge for spice levels above the Underworld (3, 4, and 5 spice levels) for life.

Background of Development
The Grim Reaper Cold Noodles were created in response to customer requests for “a more exciting cold noodle dish.” A year after its release, customers who had finished the highest level, “The World of the Underworld,” began requesting something even more challenging.
On the other hand, we were cautious about simply chasing after the spiciness level. Tokyo Reimen is a specialty restaurant for cold noodles. Based on the idea that cold noodles can be the main dish, not just the finishing touch to a yakiniku meal, we have focused on noodles directly shipped from Morioka and a soup with a refreshing acidity and rich flavor. If the spiciness overwhelms the essence of the dish, even an extremely spicy menu item cannot be considered cold noodles.
Therefore, we layered the Carolina Reaper with the Bhut Jolokia to create a thicker layer of spiciness, and added various other spices as well. We searched for a blend that would leave a savory flavor after the spiciness. It was a challenge, yet it also had to be a complete dish in itself. Those were the conditions we sought in these two stages.
